Principal's Welcome

Hello PGCPS Families

Welcome to the School One, Home of the Panthers!

I hope this letter finds you healthy, energized, and ready to embark on a
rewarding school year. As I prepare to begin my sixth year as the principal of Cora L. Rice and my 26th year of
education, I am still excited for the first day. The first day of school is always a special day as we welcome our
new and returning students. I look forward to partnering with you as we support our students in reaching
academic success.

The mission at Cora L. Rice Elementary School mission is to develop self-motivated, disciplined, and focused
learners who have the skills to be successful and productive citizens in a diverse global society. In order to
actualize our school mission we are committed to providing a school environment where all students are socially,
emotionally, and physically safe while receiving content area instruction that is rigorous, engaging, and
acknowledges their unique gifts and talents. We are RAPTORS (Resilient, Adaptive, Persistent, Tenacious, Optimistic, Reflective, and Strong)!
In alignment with the vision set by Dr. Goldson, Chief Executive Officer of Prince George’s County Public
Schools, we will have a greater focus on increasing academic achievement in mathematics, while continuing to
improve the culture and climate of our school. It is our goal to provide families with the support, services, and
resources they need to reach their academic and social goals.
While we are diligently working in anticipation of your return, we ask that you prepare for the start of the
school year by reviewing and noting the following items:
